What To Do At Home This Halloween

The Spooky Season is officially here! 2020 has been a tough year for all of us so let's all take a break and have some fun! It's even better that this year's Halloween is on a Saturday so it's a great chance to spend some time with your friends or family for the weekend and celebrate this spooky day! Make sure you do your part to help stop COVID-19 while having fun. That means traditional trick or treating, large gatherings, indoor haunted houses, etc. are not recommended. But that doesn't mean Halloween is cancelled! There are still a lot of fun things you can do at home or alternatively, at our short term rental, Avalon. In this post, we have gathered 5 fun things to do this Halloween while keeping COVID numbers low. Maybe a weekend get together with your family?

5 Fun Things To Do This Halloween

Horror Movies Marathon

Watching horror movies is a must-do activity on Halloween? Can't decide on what to watch? The Broadbandchoices has conducted a study called "The Science of Scare" in which they curated 50 of the best horror films ever made from critic's lists and Reddit recommendations, then had 50 people spent over 120 hours watching each movie in 5.1 surround sound, each fitted with a heart rate monitor to measure which movies got their blood pumping the most to find the ultimate horror movie. Here is a list of the top 10 scientifically scary movies:

  1. Sinister

  2. Insidious

  3. The Conjuring

  4. Hereditary

  5. Paranormal Activity

  6. It Follows

  7. The Conjuring 2

  8. The Babadook

  9. The Descent

  10. The Visit

P.s. Lights off! Get ready for a jump scare!

Make Some Halloween Cocktails/Mocktails

Be creative and make your own cocktails! (or mocktails if you have kids) My personal favourite cocktail is Sour Apple Concoction from Tasty. Ingredients include crushed ice, sour apple liqueur, apple flavoured vodka, lemon juice, green apple Gatorade, and apple rings. You can never really go wrong with an apple flavour!. The green colour of the drink gives it an especially spooky feel. If you have kids, you may want to make some mocktails instead so they are not missing out! Check out this Halloween Party Punch from Tasty. The eyeballs and hand-shaped ice make it look super fun! I'm sure your kids will love it. Just opt out the vodka to make it non-alcoholic.

Non-stop Halloween Music

Music always makes everything better. So why not play some Halloween music to boost the mood? Streaming services like Spotify have already created some Halloween playlists to get you ready for your fright night. Check out this Ultimate Halloween playlist by Spotify or the Disney Halloween playlist if you're a Disney fan like me! There are many other playlists like Classical Halloween so definitely check them out and pick one that matches your mood!

Wear Your Costume

Who says you can't wear your costume if you're not going out? Dress up as your favourite horror movie character and have lots of fun! Or you can even be creative and make your own costume! Let me give you some ideas here. I dressed up as a piece of salmon sushi last year while my sister dressed up as a bottle of Japanese soy sauce and my cousin dressed up as a cup of bubble tea (everyone loved her costume!). Fun fact: my cousin made all our costumes! Want to show your amazing costume to someone? Call your family and friends over Google Meet or other video-communication service and host a virtual party!

Make a Halloween Dinner/Order Takeout

All our premium suites at Avalon are fully furnished with a fully equipped kitchen so feel free to prepare your Halloween dinner at Avalon. Check out this recipe of Mac-O-Lantern and Cheese Bowls which is a little twist to the classic dish Jack-O'-Lantern Stuffed Peppers that looks super tasty. Alternatively, you can order takeout from your favourite restaurant. One of the best things about staying in our furnished suites is that we are surrounded by a variety of restaurants. We’re located in the Yorkville area, right in the heart of downtown Toronto so you will definitely find a restaurant that fulfills your cravings.

Come stay with us at Avalon this coming weekend to celebrate Halloween! There are so many other things to do even if you can't go out this Halloween but I hope this post gave you some inspiration. If you would like to learn more about our premium suites, visit our website or call us at 416.731.1372. We hope everyone stays safe and healthy! Happy Halloween! 🎃
