In our previous blog, we talked about what you can do during the lockdown in Toronto. One thing we didn't mention in the post but is also a fun activity to do at home is playing games. Playing games is a great way to get to know your friends and entertain yourself when you are bored. It's great if you are living with someone. At least you have someone to talk to. If not, we understand how depressing it can be when living alone, especially during this pandemic with all the Covid restrictions and lockdown. Therefore, we've gathered 5 different games that you can play with your friends virtually. You can just play at the comfort of your own home without meeting up.
Among Us
One of the most trending games recently is definitely Among Us. I'm sure many of you have heard of it. The game sets in space and you get assigned a role of either crewmate or impostor. You can play with 4-10 players online or via local wifi as you attempt to prepare your spaceship for departure, but beware as one or more random players among the Crew are Impostors bent on killing everyone! If you're a crewmate, you'll get assigned tasks. While everyone is fixing up the ship, no one can talk to maintain anonymity. Win by completing the tasks or ejecting all the impostors. You can report dead bodies or call for an emergency meeting if you find a suspect. You can then discuss and vote out who you believe The Impostor is. If you're The Impostor, your goal is to pretend to be a member of the crew while eliminating all the crewmates before they all complete the tasks. Sabotage the ship, sneak through vents, deceive, and frame others to remain anonymous and kill off the crew. Be careful! Don't let others see you coming out of the vents! You can download the game on your phone for free or the PC version on Steam for $5.69 CDN.
Werewolf
Werewolf (also known as Mafia) is a game of survival and deception where villagers must hunt down the werewolves before they're all killed. The game is split into alternating Days and Nights, played out live in real-time.You can play with 7 to 9 players. For 7 players, there are 5 Good roles and 2 Evil roles. For 9 players, there are 6 Good roles and 3 Evil roles. Each player is given a random card with a role and assigned to either the Good or Evil team. The Good team's goal is to identify who the evil roles are and win when all evil roles are eliminated while the Evil team's goal is to deceive the Good roles. During the Day, players will discuss who the werewolves or evil roles are and who should be killed, then vote. During the Night, certain players can carry out their Night Actions, in which each different role can carry out different actions. You can download an app called Plato on your phone and find this game within the app. There are also other games in the app so maybe you can check them out as well.
Mario Kart Tour
Mario Kart has been a popular game for years but it was only available with video game consoles like Wii and Nintendo Switch. These consoles are always expensive and all the games are sold separately so not everyone can afford them. However, this popular game is now available for free on Google Play and App Store! Sometimes the free version of some games are a lot simpler than the normal version and is not as good but this one is just like the game on the consoles. It has different themes and levels which you can unlock by winning the races. Even though it's a mobile version, it still has multiplayer mode so you can play with your friends. You just have to win one cup to unlock the mode.
Too Many Cooks
I'm sure many of you have heard of the game Overcooked. It is a chaotic couch co-op cooking game for one to four players in which you and your fellow chefs must prepare, cook and serve up a variety of tasty orders before the baying customers storm out in a huff. However, just like Mario Kart, you need a video game console like Nintendo Switch or download the game online but both are not free. Too Many Cooks is a very similar game which you can download on your phone for free and still be able to play with your friends. It lets you become a professional cooker with a mission to earn a profit by serving customers. You can only bake pizza at the beginning, but as soon as you earn more profit and level up, you can access more food. This is a very fun game and I highly recommend it, especially if you enjoy cooking.
Surgeon Simulator 2
Last but not least, Surgeon Simulator 2 is another game that's available in multiplayer mode in which you will work together on surgeries to save lives. You can play alongside with up to three friends as you tackle everything from heart transplants to limb replacements. Every object, every organ and every limb are up for grabs, or dropping, depending on your skills, really. You can even create your own levels and experiences with creation mode and share them online for the rest of the community to experience! However, this is not a free game. It is available for download on Epic Games for $19.99 CAD. I still decided to recommend this game because I personally love it. It can get very funny and I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with your friends.
